Have Thine Own Way, Lord

“But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.” (Isaiah 64:8)

It has been my experience that God’s people all too often presume to be both potter and clay. We all have some measure of design for our lives and can be reluctant to relinquish control. I wonder how many calories we expend pursuing things that are unprofitable and vain because we think they are important while ignoring the molding of humble service in the Kingdom of God that would shape our lives for the better. As the new year approaches, I want to encourage the flock to pursue the Lord in his Kingdom. Give some thought to the things you spend time and energy on that keep you from service in the Lord’s house and consider laying those things aside so that you may find the more abundant life that is only found in service to the King.

The Lord taught us to pray “Thy will be done” not “My will be done.” May we find the strength to pray that prayer and the courage change when the answer is dependent upon our choice to follow the Lord as we ought.
