Longsuffering

It dawned on me today, while studying and speaking from Second Peter Chapter 3, that he quotes a fact as to time in a thousand years being as one day and one day as a thousand years from Psalms 90:4 of a thousand years being as yesterday when done.

“For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.” (Psalm 90:4)

Peter's point is to born again children of God that know the truth and he is inspired to remind again of the surety of Jesus coming. In so doing the reference from the Psalm is from a prayer of Moses, not a song, as such, of David. It struck me then that Moses is reflecting on the past 80 years of his life. He is stating the experiences of 80 years here and yet his request is for God's direction and blessing in the work of his hands. It stirred my thinking to note Moses was 80 years old when God sent him back to Egypt for the deliverance of Israel. God was not done with him, but deliverance was coming. God had not forgotten His promise to Abraham and was not slack but longsuffering in the lot of the Hebrew nation Egypt. And He waited on them to turn in the wilderness. Peter is telling those of like precious faith that God's longsuffering is our salvation. He is coming, but what should we be about until then? The connection is awesome to me. He waits for us and is joyful over one sinner that repents. Incredible, isn't it.

“And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you” (II Peter 3:15)
