Ignorance

The word, “ignorant,” is used fourteen times in the New Testament alone. There are many facets of ignorance. The definition of the word suggests that there is either a lack of intelligence, or a lack of information, on the part of the person. We see this in our society. Some people do not have the mental ability to understand while others do not seek out the information to understand.

Another element to ignorance is when the Lord withholds His light from the intellect of humans. This is found in those who have not faith or are dead in trespasses and in sin. The Lord will not let them know so He has not given them the spiritual ability to understand. The Lord has hidden the precious truths of His word from the wise and prudent of this world and revealed it unto babes, His precious children.

Then there are those who are willingly ignorant. They are determined not to know a truth even though there is plenty of evidence for them to know. All of these are facets of ignorance.

I would like to encourage you all to be students of God’s word in the year to come. Let us not be ignorant concerning the things that we can know and should know. We should all have a special time each day that we give attendance to reading the Bible. Let us not substitute God’s word with novels, devotionals, or any other thing.
