Communion Logistics
COMMUNION LOGISTICS AND THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH
Part of the mission of the church is to hand down the faith once delivered to the saints to subsequent generations even as the previous generation handed it to them. Doing so involves passing along some logistical knowledge regarding how to prepare the bread and how to obtain the wine for the communion service. It is possible for us to attend church and just assume that these things get done and not give much thought to how it comes to pass. But the Lord’s church requires our involvement and ownership of the logistics of conducting orderly services. We should be purposeful about passing this information along to subsequent generations, else the common practices of the church will become esoteric and foreign to those who will be tasked with running the next leg of the journey. To that end, you’ll find below a recipe for communion bread that we have used for many years which I obtained from sister Henrietta Clayton. You’ll also find some suggestions regarding communion wine.
COMMUNION BREAD
1 Cup of All Purpose Flour
Mix with water to form a paste
Roll flat with a rolling pin
Use lots of flour to keep from sticking to pin
Form into quarter sized balls
Smash into wafers the size of a quart fruit jar lid
Place on parchment paper on a cookie sheet
Bake at 275 - 300 - watch them until done
Ovens vary but this may take 30 min or more
The goal is to end up with crisp, dry, easily breakable, unleavened bread
