Fellowship
“That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full. This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” (John 1:3-7)
Brothers and sisters and all who call upon the name of the Lord, we not only need fellowship with our Savior Jesus Christ, we need this common fellowship with each other as well. I am sure you have heard the story of the Indian who built a campfire and wanted to show his family the importance of family. He removed one coal from the fire as his family watched, then placed this coal all by itself. The coal soon lost its glow and useful purpose. As he began to place the coal back into the fire it once again began to glow. We are of the family of God and have the light of the Son of God within us. This fire of fellowship is part of the salvation God has for his family whereby we can feed on the heavenly manna from God.
How tedious and tasteless the hours
When Jesus no longer I see!
Sweet prospects, sweet birds, and sweet flowers,
Have all lost their sweetness to me,
The midsummer sun shines but dim,
The fields strive in vain to look gay;
But when I am happy in Him,
December's as pleasant as May.
(Old School Hymnal, #310)
May God bless us with his fellowship,
