Husband-Savior
STATEMENT
I came across this post on social media:
A husbands job is to get his wife to heaven. You don't do that by living a life that is convenient to you. When the bible says, "Sacrifice yourself" it means sacrifice your convenience. You don't do that by living a life that is convenient to you. When the bible says, "Sacrifice yourself" it means sacrifice your convenience.
RESPONSE
My thoughts…
A husbands job is to get his wife to heaven.
That was Jesus's job, not a husband's.
”And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins." (Matthew 1:21)
You don't do that by living a life that is convenient to you.
You don't do the work of eternally saving your wife at all. Jesus does that work.
"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." (John 10:27-28)
When the bible says, "Sacrifice yourself" it means sacrifice your convenience.
To suggest that a man sacrificing his convenience so that his wife can have eternal salvation carries two blasphemous notions:
It suggests that there is more than one mediator between God and men when the bible says there is ONE. "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;" (I Timothy 2:5)
It suggests that eternal salvation is by works, namely the work of a husband sacrificing for his wife. The bible says, "By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all." (Hebrews 10:10)
Those who believe a husbands actions are instrumental in the eternal salvation of their wives are guilty of thinking too much of their sacrifice and far too little of Christ's.
Don't teach this. It is another gospel.
