The Lord Directs Our Steps

“Bless the Lord , O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.” (Psalm 103:1)

LEAVING A FORMER JOB

I want to take a minute and publicly thank the Lord for his grace and providence in my life. In September, I was forced to leave my former job due to the dishonesty and coercive tactics of management, through no fault of my own. I certainly never anticipated being in such a situation. By 10am on my first day of interviewing for jobs, I had a phone call from a recruiter about a local position. That position did not materialize but that recruiter sent my information to Horne.

AN UNEXPECTED OPPORTUNITY

She asked me if I was willing to go back to public accounting and my short answer was, “No.” God drops unexpected people in your path, and essentially the only reason I have this job today is because of the proactive initiative of this lady. The thank you note I will write to her can never express my gratitude for how the Lord used her in this process. I took the interview with Horne, but had minimal expectations it would be a good fit for me or them. However, Horne has adopted a great culture over the last 10 years that I was not aware of. They adopted the motto of the Wise Firm based on the wise man who built his house upon the rock in Matthew 7:24-25. The company’s core values are said to be “God, family, service, and gratitude.” For a firm to be that openly Christian is extremely rare and the Lord has honored their bold commitment through tremendous growth. The interviews went great and I started work with Horne last week.

IMPROVED CIRCUMSTANCES

Two months ago I had no designs to leave my former job. I was discontent but didn’t want to give up the convenience of that job. However the dishonesty of management forced my hand. I spent 2 weeks without work which I think was a much needed reset and humbling experience for me. Now instead of a workplace that is politically toxic and values complacency and apathy, I have been blessed with a new opportunity with a company that is innovative, values their employees, rewards hard work and relationships, and is openly Christ centered. And I got a pay raise out of all this too. Not only is Horne a company with great values but the Construction Division where I am now an Assurance Supervisor was recently ranked as the #18 Construction Accounting Firm in the US. So, if you know anyone in construction who needs great accounting expertise, then send them our way and we will do our best to exceed their expectations.

THE LORD DIRECTS OUR STEPS

This is just one more testimony in my life that truly man devises his own way but the Lord directs his steps (Prov. 16:9). God’s will can often lead in a path you did not expect but his way is always better than our own. It seems the last 6 weeks have been a real life exposition of the hymn God Moves in a Mysterious Way, his wonders to perform. This cloud looked very dark and ominous for quite a while, but lo and behold his purposes will ripen fast unfolding every hour and the same ominous, fearful cloud has broken with showers of mercy on my head. Don’t ever doubt, even in the valleys, God is good and working his sovereign will even when we cannot see the full picture! “In every change, he faithful will remain!”

May Christ be glorified in this next season of my career and my life!
